Who We Are
Stuex is a hyper-local platform built for the day-to-day life of a Nigerian tertiary student. We are a verified, campus-fenced ecosystem where students can learn smarter, trade safely, and connect with the people around them all in one application, designed for the realities of Nigerian university life.
At the most basic level, Stuex is three things in one place: a peer-to-peer marketplace protected by escrow, an AI-powered learning engine called SILE that helps students prepare for examinations, and a campus social and events layer that surfaces what is happening on your campus. The unifying thread is verification. Every account on Stuex belongs to a confirmed student of a Nigerian tertiary institution.
We are independent, founder-led, and built in Nigeria for Nigerians. We are not a clone of a foreign marketplace bolted onto a Nigerian audience. Every workflow on Stuex from how we handle escrow, to how we verify students, to how SILE grades a theory answer written by hand on paper was designed for the way Nigerian students actually live and study.
Why Stuex Exists
Anyone who has spent a semester on a Nigerian campus knows the patterns. A fresher arrives in August needing a mattress, a kettle, a fan, and a reading lamp, and ends up buying second-hand from a stranger they met in a WhatsApp group. A final-year student finishes their last exam and tries to liquidate three years of accumulated furniture and electronics in two weeks. A 200-level student studying for a course with no current textbook ends up paying for a smudged photocopy of past questions from a vendor outside the faculty building. None of these transactions are protected. None of them are verified. Many of them go wrong.
The same students who navigate this fragmented student economy also study under intense pressure. Past questions circulate in PDFs of varying quality. Lecturers' marking schemes are rarely public. Theory answers, which dominate most Nigerian university examinations, are difficult to self-grade because there is no instant, structured feedback. Students who can afford private tutors get this support. Students who cannot, do not.
Stuex exists to close both of these gaps in one product. We bring trust to student commerce through verification and escrow. We bring quality to student learning through SILE. And we do it in a way that respects the realities of Nigerian students — low data budgets, intermittent connectivity, and a strong preference for mobile-first experiences.
The Three Pillars
1. The Marketplace: Trade Safely
The Stuex marketplace is a peer-to-peer trading environment limited to verified students of the same institution or, where students opt in, a wider Stuex network. Only verified accounts can list items or send offers. Listings cover the categories that matter on campus: hostel essentials, electronics, books and study materials, fashion, services, and accommodation handovers between graduating and incoming students.
What makes the Stuex marketplace different from a Twitter thread or a WhatsApp group is the escrow system. When a buyer pays for an item, the money does not go directly to the seller. It is held in escrow with our licensed payment processor. The seller is then notified to deliver or hand over the item. The buyer has a fixed inspection window of seventy-two (72) hours to confirm receipt or raise a dispute. Only after confirmation or after the inspection window expires without action does the money move to the seller, with Stuex deducting a service fee of five percent (5%).
This single mechanism removes the most common loss patterns in student commerce: the seller who collects payment and disappears, the buyer who collects the item and refuses to pay, and the off-platform handover that leaves no record when things go wrong. Stuex acts purely as an intermediary. We do not own, store, ship, or inspect the items. We are the trust layer between two students who otherwise would have no reason to believe each other.
2. The Learning Engine: Learn Smarter
SILE the Stuex Intelligent Learning Engine is the academic heart of the platform. It digitises past questions across the curriculum, organises them by institution, department, course, and year, and lets students attempt them with structured, AI-powered feedback. Students can upload questions they have, contribute to a growing public pool, and study from questions uploaded by peers at their institution
3. The Community Layer: Thrive Together
Beyond commerce and study, Stuex carries a lightweight community layer. Campus event feeds surface what is happening at your institution from departmental dinners to faculty week activities to club meetings moderated through AI filters to keep the feed safe and relevant. Verified student organisations and societies can publish updates that reach the students who care.
This layer exists because student life is more than transactions and tests. The same fresher who needs a mattress also needs to know which fellowship meets on Sunday evening, which study group is meeting at the library on Thursday, and where the JCI orientation is being held. Stuex makes campus social infrastructure visible, instead of leaving it scattered across flyer boards and group chats that students may or may not be in.
How Trust Is Built - Verification and Privacy
Verification is the foundation that makes every other Stuex feature possible. Before a new user can post a listing, send an offer, or participate in campus feeds, they must verify that they are a current student of a Nigerian tertiary institution. Verification can be completed using a student identification card or an institutional email address.
We follow the principle of data minimisation. Verification documents are processed only to confirm student status and are then permanently deleted from our systems, whether the verification succeeds or fails. We do not store student IDs in long-term storage, we do not build a database of identity documents, and we do not share these documents with any third party. What we retain is the outcome of verification (verified or not verified) and the date nothing more.
Stuex is compliant with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019. Our full Privacy Policy explains in detail what we collect, why, how long we retain it, and the rights you have under Nigerian law. The short version is this: we collect the minimum, we protect what we hold, and we never sell user data.
Our Approach to Safety and Integrity
Stuex is committed to two non-negotiables: marketplace safety and academic integrity.
On marketplace safety, we combine verification, escrow, in-app messaging logs, dispute resolution, and active moderation to keep the platform free of scammers, counterfeit goods, and prohibited items. Our Prohibited Content policy lists in detail what cannot be listed or shared, from controlled substances to counterfeit goods to off-platform payment diversions. Repeat offenders lose access. Serious cases are referred to the appropriate authorities.
On academic integrity, Stuex has a zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice. SILE is a study aid for use outside live examinations. Sharing live examination questions, soliciting answers during a sitting, or paying another student to write a test on your behalf are prohibited and may carry institutional consequences in addition to account termination. Past questions that are lawfully released and freely available may be uploaded; copyrighted lecture materials and proprietary marking schemes may not.
We see these two commitments as inseparable. A platform that lets sellers scam buyers will not last. A platform that lets students cheat on examinations cannot honestly claim to help them learn. Stuex is built to do neither.
A Brief Word on the Name
"Stuex" combines "student" with "exchange." The exchange is broader than money it is the exchange of textbooks, ideas, study tips, event announcements, and second-hand furniture. It is the exchange of help between students who do not yet know each other but share a campus and a stage of life. The name is short for a reason. On a small screen, on a slow connection, against a long list of things a student has to remember in any given week, we wanted to be easy to type and easier to recall.
Our Vision
We believe the digital infrastructure of Nigerian tertiary education should be designed by people who have lived inside it. We believe trust is engineered, not assumed. We believe an AI can be an honest tutor, not just a clever copy-paste tool. And we believe that the right combination of commerce, learning, and community, delivered through a single trusted application, can quietly raise the quality of student life across the country.
That is the vision that drives every line of code, every policy decision, and every conversation we have with the students who use Stuex. We are at the beginning of a long road, and we are building it alongside the community we serve.
